Indexing Does Your Research Good Christine016 posted this tip
to the
FamiliyTreeMagazine.com Forum:I've been volunteering my time to the
FamilySearch Indexing project, and the work has accomplished a few
things for me as a researcher. I've indexed over 10,000 names from census, birth, marriage,
prison, and mortality records from the 1850s to the 1940s from the US,
Canada, and Ireland. It's given me a great overview of the
variety of records available and how to read them for meaningful information. Now that I have firsthand experience
as an indexer, I can better predict what kind of errors can easily be
made and I can better read the old fashioned
handwriting. This has already helped me go back through my own line and locate additional records. Read the rest of Christine016's tip on the Forum.
If you have a great idea for discovering, preserving or celebrating family history, post your tip to the Submit Your Tips Forum (you must be registered
